Fertility awareness is power: What every woman deserves to know
It’s embarrassing to admit, but I was naïve about my fertility.
I took it for granted. I was living a reasonably healthy life, so I assumed my reproductive system was top-notch.
It never occurred to me that I was giving away my power by making those assumptions.
I allowed the years to fly by—focusing on finding the right relationship, but ignoring the reality of my body’s fertility timeline.
After getting married at 36, I held on to that illusion. We started trying to get pregnant, but it didn’t happen.
By the time I went to a fertility doctor at age 40, my options were limited.

That realization, and the heartache that followed, became the driving force behind my nonprofit, Cheri’s Choice.

This simple process provides a snapshot of your reproductive health—empowering you to make informed decisions about your future.
Here are the main components:
🧬 Hormone testing
A blood test can measure:
FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone)
LH (Luteinizing Hormone)
Estradiol (Estrogen)
AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone)
Prolactin
Thyroid levels
These hormones indicate ovarian health, ovarian reserve, and egg quality—essentially how well your body is positioned for conception.
🩺 Reproductive system evaluation
A pelvic ultrasound and Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) are used to assess the structure and function of your uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.
These tests help confirm whether your reproductive anatomy is healthy enough to conceive and sustain a pregnancy.
🌿 Medical history and lifestyle review
Your doctor will discuss:
Menstrual cycle patterns
Past pregnancies or miscarriages
Lifestyle factors such as weight, stress, nutrition, medications, and environmental exposures
This holistic view ensures that the biological, emotional, and lifestyle aspects of fertility are all considered.
