Where did my waist go?

For 10 years, I asked myself the same painful question.

Where did my waist to go?

Before having children, I always carried extra weight in my hips and thighs. No matter what the scale said, I could always sport a stylish belt to conceal my physical imperfections.

That is, until childbirth and menopause hit me.

After my first child, my body bounced back quickly. I was surprised, considering I was 44 years old at the time.

But when I gave birth to my second child two weeks shy of my 47th birthday, it was a different story.

My waist disappeared.

I never realized how much my waistline represented my femininity until it was gone.

For the next decade, I struggled to feel womanly. I lost weight and worked out, but my feminine curves never returned.

Menopause was definitely part of it. The moment I stopped breastfeeding my son, my hormone levels plummeted.

Now, at 57, I dared to ask myself an important question. Am I willing to accept a life where I no longer feel attractive or feminine?

My answer “HELL NO!” came quickly.

With that clarity, I had to figure out what to do about it.

First, I joined a gym to lift weights, committed to cardio six days a week, and followed a sensible, carb-controlled diet. My weight didn’t budge.

Then I decided to seek help from a doctor who specialized in cosmetic surgery and overall wellness. That’s when I met the team at Austin Cosmetic Surgery.

Dr. Michelle Cabret, Dr. Kimberly Prock, and their predominantly female team of nurses and aestheticians immediately made me feel comfortable and hopeful.

You may not know it, but female plastic surgeons are rare in the US. While women make up 38% of all MDs in our country, they make up only 18% of plastic surgeons.

Gender was important to me because I was opening up the most vulnerable parts of myself. As women, they understood what I was going through.

What’s more, these women are fierce! Strong, educated, talented, and yet kind and compassionate too. I knew instantly that these ladies would guide my transformation.

We made a plan which involved reintroducing the hormones my body was craving, supporting my health journey with medication, and scheduling a handful of procedures to address areas that diet and exercise could not impact.

On the day of my procedure, the team greeted me in Barbie pink scrubs. I felt the female empowerment surging in the air. I drifted off to the sound of Sabrina Carpenter.

It’s been seven days since my procedure.

And…drumroll please…

I am proud to announce that my waist has returned!

You’ll have to wait for the big reveal, but I am so grateful to this team of professionals who helped me rediscover the woman I remember.
