Reflections on World IVF Day – 47 Years of Miracles
Today is one of my favorite days—World IVF Day.
Forty-seven years ago, the first IVF baby was born. That single moment took a crushing diagnosis—infertility—and replaced it with something extraordinary: Hope.
Since then, more than 10 million babies have been born through IVF worldwide, creating 10 million families through this miracle of modern medicine.
Remarkably, the innovation hasn’t stopped. A couple of weeks ago, I sat down with Sarah Nuttycombe at Rightlever to talk about how AI is helping embryologists improve medical outcomes.
AI is now extending beyond the lab, providing emotional support for women undergoing IVF with tools like Emerson, created by innovators like Elizabeth King.
Clearly, we’re only beginning to understand the full potential of this technology.
But for me, this day isn’t just about science. It’s deeply personal.
IVF gave me my two greatest gifts—my children. But the road to them was long and often heartbreaking.
The journey came after countless appointments, the sting of injections, financial stress, heartbreak, and more tears than I can count. IVF was grueling, but it provided me with a path to family when my prospects were fading.
We should never forget that behind every IVF cycle is a woman’s quiet struggle: midnight prayers, the anxiety before each blood test and each phone call, the crushing disappointment when another cycle fails, and the courage to try “just one more time.” Those are the stories I carry in my heart today.
On this World IVF Day, I honor the medical pioneers who believed the impossible was achievable.
I applaud the dedicated doctors and nurses who fight alongside their patients every day.
And I pledge solidarity with every hopeful and courageous woman still on the journey.
Today, I celebrate science. I celebrate love. And I celebrate every warrior still fighting for their family.
Keep believing because miracles happen every day, and yours could be next.
